In light of the current COVID-19 situation, College of the Mainland has extended the application deadline to May 15, 2020 for the ApplyTexas portion of its Opening Doors Promise Scholarship. The scholarship allows every qualifying high school student residing in Texas City or La Marque to attend COM full time, tuition free and earn an associate degree or complete a workforce training certificate program.

To be considered an Opening Doors Promise Scholar in Fall 2020, students must complete two simple steps by the designated deadline dates below:

  • STEP 1 – May 15, 2020: Apply for admission through www.applytexas.org and choose “College of the Mainland.”
  • STEP 2 – June 1, 2020: Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov and list “College of the Mainland” or enter code 007096.

All Texas City and La Marque residing Class of 2020 students graduating from either a public, private, charter or home school, or a GED program aged 16-18 years old are eligible for the Opening Doors Promise Scholarship. Any Class of 2020 graduating senior at La Marque High School is also eligible for the scholarship, regardless of residence. There is no income or high school grade point average (GPA) requirement. To maintain the scholarship once awarded, students should be enrolled full time and maintain at least 12 credit hours. After completing the first year at COM, students must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
