COMPeers Host Valentine's Day Pizza Party

More than 20 volunteers from College of the Mainland hosted a Valentine’s Day-themed evening for residents at Ronald McDonald House Galveston on Friday, Feb. 8.

COMPeers, a College of the Mainland employee volunteer group, organized a pizza party and provided arts & craft supplies so children staying at the Ronald McDonald House could make Valentine’s Day goody bags. The Ronald McDonald House is like a home away from home for families of children who are patients at the University of Texas Medical Branch, the Transitional Learning Center and Shriners Hospital for Children. Many of the children and their families who stay at the House are burn victims from around the world.

“It is very rewarding to have not only fellow employees and family members join us but COM students as well. It was an awesome day,” said volunteer Michelle Gerami.

COMPeers also donated five gallons of toiletries for the residents.

COM employees and family members who volunteered were Leanne Downton, Amanda Garza, Gerami, Lauren Harper, Nicole Lloyd, Rosie Rojas, Chris Rushing, Kari Starz and Scott Turnbough.
