Volunteers with Texas EquuSearch used a COM parking lot to gather before searching for a missing 7-year-old boy.

College of the Mainland lent its support to local authorities when various law enforcement agencies and volunteers joined forces to search for a missing 7-year-old boy.

The COM Conference Center became the incident command post for the growing group throughout the day on Jan. 7. Sadly, the missing boy, Xavion Young, was discovered drown in a pond outside his apartment complex, which is adjacent to the college.

The Texas City Police Department along with 14 other agencies and about 150 volunteers were involved with the incident.

Cadets enrolled in the COM Police Academy, who began classes on Jan. 7, assisted in the search as well. COM Police, Emergency Management and Marketing and Public Affairs staff also provided assistance and were part of the Incident Command staff.
