The College of the Mainland Jazz Ensemble will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12 at the Fine Arts Building Theatre on campus.

Directed by Sparky Koerner, the ensemble will perform a wide variety of music including a jazz version of “Beauty and the Beast,” arranged by Gordon Goodwin.
“I believe the audience will find this jazz arrangement a lot different than what they heard in the movie,” Koerner said.

A wonderful song recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra, “The Second Time Around,” has great ensemble writing. A south-of-the-border sound will happen on “Besame Mucho” (Kiss Me Much), arranged by Mike Tomaro. Swinging hard is “Bernie’s Tune,” arranged by Victor Goines, a member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.

Since the concert is taking place in December, there will be a few jazzy Christmas selections also.

The concert is free and open to the public.
