Women’s History Month: Honoring trailblazers

In honor of women’s history month, the college will host several talks as trend-setting career women share their stories, setbacks and successes.
- Dr. Joan Nichols, who works in the first lab to grow human lungs, will speak March 28 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the COM Learning Resources Center Auditorium. She will share her TED Talk: “High Risk Research with Breathtaking Results: Bioengineering Lungs for Clinical Use.” For more information, contact Michelle Cortez at 409-933-8502 or mcortez6@com.edu.
- Karen Kupsa, Union Carbide and Dow process operator for more than 30 years and COM process technology professor, will speak March 21, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the COM Learning Resources Center Auditorium. - The college will honor lifelong educator Bennie Matthews with a tree dedication March 21 at 12:30 p.m. behind the Administration Building. Matthews has been a member of the COM board of trustees for 34 years and an educator for 42.
- Angela Wilson, community news editor for the Galveston County Daily News, will speak on women’s empowerment March 23 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the COM Learning Resources Center Auditorium. For more information, email ndavidson@com.edu.
