College of the Mainland alum Jack McLaughlin will perform his master’s recital at the Moody Mansion ballroom Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in Galveston.

McLaughlin will perform Beethoven’s “Apassionata,” three Argentinian dances by Alberto Ginastera and “Quatre Mazurkas” by Chopin.

"There are a lot of things about performing that I enjoy, but above all I like being able to communicate my musical ideas with audiences," said McLaughlin.

Born and raised in Galveston County, McLaughlin studied with COM music professor Paul Boyd before transferring to the University of Houston. He earned a bachelor’s degree in piano performance with the highest honors studying under the world-renowned pianist and Cullen Distinguished Professor of Music, Abbey Simon.

“My University of Houston music teacher is now his teacher,” said professor Paul Boyd. “He started in group piano classes at COM, showed great talent and moved to individual piano lessons. He recently performed his master’s recital before a jury, and he passed with flying colors.”

McLaughlin is completing a master’s degree in the piano performance at the University of Houston and spends his time teaching piano, collaborating with fellow musicians, competing, and giving solo performances in the greater Houston area.
