The College of the Mainland Cosmetology Program has expanded its location and added a new esthetics lab.

The lab, with ten client chairs, allows students to learn how to provide anti-aging treatments, microdermabrasion, exfoliations and LED photo-light facials.

“Our esthetician graduates have been hired at doctors’ offices, salons, spas and resorts,” said Savannah Davis, COM esthetics instructor for 10 years.

The nine-month COM Esthetics Program trains students to help individuals maintain healthy, glowing skin through facial treatments. They may also provide facial hair removal treatments, such as waxing, or apply makeup for special occasions.

“This expansion will allow us to continue to serve more students,” said Jamie Hunsucker, chair of human service careers and program coordinator of cosmetology.

The program added 3,500 square feet including a conference room, offices and two classrooms for students training to be cosmetologists, cosmetology instructors and estheticians.

Advanced COM cosmetology and esthetician students work in the Salon at College of the Mainland at 15009 Delaney Rd. in La Marque. Individuals can make appointments on Thursdays and Fridays for facials, waxing, haircuts, hair coloring and hair styling.

The College of the Mainland Cosmetology Program prepares students for success in the field at a fraction of the cost of private institutions with instructors with years of professional experience.
