On Sept. 13 the Galveston County Commissioners’ Court passed a resolution recognizing College of the Mainland for its 50th anniversary.

The resolution read in part: “College of the Mainland has always committed itself to providing outstanding educational curriculum, professional growth programs and recreational opportunities for all ages, and … continues to focus on the future with new and expanded programs to develop students’ knowledge and skills for jobs and economic opportunities of the 21st century.”

The resolution was signed by County Judge Mark Henry, County Clerk Dwight D. Sullivan; Ryan L. Dennard; of Precinct 1, Joe Guisti, of Precinct 2; Stephen D. Holmes, of Precinct 3; and Kenneth Clark, of Precinct 4.

Santa Fe, Texas City, Hitchcock, Kemah and La Marque passed similar resolutions. The Dickinson city council will vote on one Sept. 27.

Oct. 1 is COM’s Birthday Bash: A Family Day Event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the COM campus. The free event will feature classic cars, birthday cake, a kids’ zone and local food trucks.
