Assistant registrar launches students on path to success
In her 30 years at the college, Laura Divine has watched – and helped – hundreds of students graduate.
“We’re small enough to get to know students on a more personal basis,” said Laura. “I’ve heard so many students say that without the school they wouldn’t have been able to be successful. I’ve been here so long I’ve seen graduates’ children come.”
She often assists behind the scenes, inputting information into WebAdvisor and helping make updates to the COM student system. During peak registration times, she helps at the admissions counter, listens to students’ concerns and works to resolve them.
Laura knows the courage required for students to take the first step to college.
“I’ve been in their spot. I started working as a student worker in ’83. I’ve done the steps: finding courses, finding your way around campus and signing up,” said Divine, who graduated from COM with an associate degree in elementary and special education. “I strive to find solutions that will make things easier for students.”
As assistant registrar, she recently helped COM implement Student Planning, which helps students more easily map a course from first class to graduation.
“She’s very active in the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. When you give her a project you never have to worry about it. You know it’s going to get done,” said Kelly Musick, Associate Vice President for Enrollment/Registrar.
Laura works to ensure succeed from registration to graduation, as others have supported her.
