Emergencies don’t take a vacation, and this summer workers can prepare to enter industry or expand their skills with Occupational Safety and Health Administration courses at the Gulf Coast Safety Institute. Individuals can choose to take classes designed for either general industry or construction at no cost.

Both the General Industry and Construction 10-Hour Courses give all employees, especially entry-level industry workers, key information about how to identify, prevent and reduce risk of injury from job-related hazards.

The General Industry 10-Hour Course is taught by College of the Mainland staff at the Gulf Coast Safety Institute at 320 Delany Rd. in La Marque.

General industry topics include an introduction to OSHA, emergency action plans, fire prevention plans, electrical safety, personal protective equipment, hazard communication, materials handling, control of hazardous energy (lockout-tagout) and fall protection.

Upcoming General Industry OSHA 10-Hour (English) Classes are June 15-16 and Aug. 16-17. To register, call 409-933-8162 or email at gcsi@com.edu.
