Broadway to Bond … James Bond concert open to public
From Broadway to Bond to big band, the College of the Mainland Concert Band will reprise the legendary music of the stage in a free concert May 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the COM Fine Arts Building Recital Hall.
Melodies that will make audiences want to get up and dance include “Tuxedo Junction” and “Pennsylvania 6-5000.” Spycraft classics include “The James Bond Theme,” “Goldfinger” and “Live and Let Die.”
Rounding out the performance are Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” and Rossini’s “William Tell Overture.”
“The concert will be one for all types of music fans,” said Sparky Koerner, director of the Concert Band. “‘Glenn Miller in Concert’ will have your toes tapping with his great hits. ‘The King and I’ with all its great melodies such as ‘I Whistle a Happy Tune,’ ‘Getting to Know You’ and ‘Shall We Dance’ will give that touch of Broadway to the concert.”
Comprised of community members and COM students, the COM Concert Band gives participants an opportunity to hone their skills while entertaining the public.
