For half a century, College of the Mainland has launched careers and encouraged students to serve their neighbors. In commemoration of its 50th anniversary, the college will honor distinguished alumni who have made a difference in all aspects of the community. Anyone may submit a nomination online at www.com.edu/alumniaward. The deadline to nominate an alum is June 30.

A selection committee will review nominations and honor awardees at the 50th Anniversary Gala, a ticketed event, Sept 15, 6-9 p.m., at the Doyle Center in Texas City.

Nominees will be considered based on their professional achievements, community service, academic achievements, college service and personal triumphs. A distinguished alumni should be an individual of integrity who is held in high esteem and who has graduated with a degree or certificate or completed 24 or more hours at COM.

Continuing the year of celebration, the 50th Birthday Bash, a Family Day Event is free and open to the community Saturday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All are invited to sample food trucks’ specialties, hear music by local groups, take a walk through history and explore children’s activities.
