The Second Annual Veteran Health and Resource Fair at College of the Mainland will be held April 26 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Student Center. This event is free and open to all veterans, COM students and the community.

Veterans and their families are invited to meet representatives from health care agencies, financial institutions, nonprofits, local retailers and social service agencies.

“Through our efforts with the Veteran Health and Resource Fair, we want to continue to provide a bridge of support from College of the Mainland to the community,” said Detra Levige, COM Veterans Officer/School Certifying Official. “Last year our focus was to connect our veteran population with the health care industry in the county. This year we want to continue to build bridges with our student veteran population on campus and the community to assist veterans in all aspects of their lives.”

COM also has an Office for Veteran Success, where staff help veterans and their families to learn about benefits, apply for financial aid and benefits and receive career and academic advising. The center has computers, a copier and a fax machine available for students, along with a conference room for study groups, tutoring and Veterans Organization meetings. Last year the center helped veterans with submitting proper VA documentation 1,013 times and had a total of 879 visits.

For five years COM has been named to the Military Friendly School list by Victory Media Inc., which reviews colleges on military support on campus and veteran graduation and job placement rates.
