Cenergistic has awarded College of the Mainland the Energy Pacesetter Award for achieving savings totaling $1,168,283 (35 percent) since 2012 when it partnered with the energy-conservation company.

The Energy Pacesetter Award is designated only for programs achieving above-average savings, recognizing the support and cooperation of administration, faculty and staff organization-wide.

“We are tied for first place in amount of energy savings of all colleges our size that have partnered with Cenergistic in the U.S.,” said COM energy specialist Bill Roy.

Most of the savings come from behavioral changes and operating  equipment more efficiently. The college has saved  8,451,578 kilowatt hours and 12,337,000 gallons of water.

“Reaching this level of savings at this stage of the program is a significant achievement,” said Dr. William S. Spears, CEO and founder of Cenergistic. “The president and board are to be commended for clearly fulfilling their commitment to being good stewards of the taxpayers’ money and the environment.”

Energy Specialist Bill Roy tracks energy consumption — including electricity, water, sewer and natural gas— using software. He calculates the amount of energy used before implementing conservation and management practices. This way he can quickly identify and correct areas that need immediate attention.

In 2014, Cenergistic presented COM with the Award for Energy Stewardship for saving enough energy in 15 months to effectively plant more than 53,744 trees.
