Sea-hued oil paintings, sharp photographs of Galveston and resplendent acrylics take center stage at the 16th annual Texas City Art Festival April 12-15 featuring the high-quality work of students in the College of the Mainland 50 Plus Program.

Named the mayor’s choice feature exhibit, the COM 50 Plus Program will display over 40 pieces of acrylic, oil, photography, pen and ink, fabric and 3-D art. This marks the first time that a group rather than an individual has received the honor.

“It’s a fun show because of the diversity and rich color,” said COM 50 Plus Program art instructor Nancy House.

Local artists and gallery owners, Alicia Boles and Nikki Thompson, of Affaire d’Art, 2227 Postoffice Suite B in Galveston, selected entries for the exhibition.

“I thought the art was incredible (with) the talent and level of work,” said Thompson.

The Texas City Art Festival opening night and reception and juried show awards will be April 11 from 6:30-9 p.m.

A special COM 50 Plus Program Preview and Reception will be held Tuesday, April 14, from 2-4 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

The art show will be open to the public April 12, 2-6 p.m. and April 13-15 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Charles T. Doyle Convention Center, 2010 5th Ave. N. in Texas City.
