A spectrum of colors will soar through the air as runners race through a Hurdles for Heroes 5K Color Course on July 20 at College of the Mainland.

As runners pass each obstacle on the military-inspired course, they will be peppered with another color of paint, marking their success. By the course’s end, triumphant runners will be wearing a plethora of colors.

“It’s about being active and having fun,” said organizer Lalanya Ennis. “You can walk, jog or speed race. The idea is to get messy, really colorful.”

The event will raise funds for the COM So Psyched student club and the nonprofit Active Heroes, which supports military members with post-traumatic stress disorder and their families.

“A lot of club members have family members in the service or have been in the service so they chose a military organization,” said Ennis.

The family-friendly event beginning at 8 a.m. will include music, activities for spectators, door prizes and lunch. Participants may sign up as teams or individually. The cost is $10 for students with current ID, military members with ID or children 11 years old and younger; for all other runners 12 and older, the fee is $15. Wearing a white shirt so the full range of colors is visible is recommended. For more information visit the website at http://colorcourse.com.edu or call 409-933-8197 or email lennis@com.edu.
