Continuing a successful 13-year partnership, Texas Mutual Insurance Company has donated $100,000 to the College of the Mainland Gulf Coast Safety Institute. The Gulf Coast Safety Institute’s Center for Risk Management will use the funds to continue its mission of providing safety classes free of charge.

“Workplace safety should be a top priority for businesses, and our longstanding partnership with Texas Mutual helps educate area employers and employees on that topic,” said COM President Beth Lewis, Ph.D. “Our participants not only learn valuable lessons they can apply in the workplace, but these courses also give them a competitive edge in today’s marketplace. Thanks to the generosity of Texas Mutual, we can continue to provide the community with this valuable safety resource.”

Texas Mutual Insurance Mutual is the state’s leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance.

“Accident prevention is a huge part of our mission. We’re very proud to continue this partnership,” said Texas Mutual Vice President of Public Affairs Jo Betsy Norton.

The Gulf Coast Safety Institute has trained more than 20,000 students in its 13 years of providing free safety classes each month.

“We are very excited to continue our partnership with Texas Mutual Insurance Company,”  said Cindy Lewis, director of the Gulf Coast Safety Institute. “This donation will allow us to continue to educate and train industry and community members in a wide range of safety and health topics.”

This year many new classes will be added to the list of popular offerings. Topics include risk communications, lifesaving first aid and OSHA training.
