College of the Mainland music student Jack McLaughlin, who was recently accepted to study at the University of Houston Moore School of Music, will be performing a full-length piano concert at the COM Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Building at 7 p.m. on Tues., Aug. 21.

McLaughlin will perform classical selections from Bach, Beethoven, Prokofiev and Liszt.

“The program is a junior recital that Jack has prepared before he has even started his junior year,” said McLaughlin’s music teacher, Dr. Paul Boyd. “This is a phenomenal achievement by one of COM's students who enrolled while still in high school.”

McLaughlin began studying at COM as a dual credit student taking college-level music lessons while still in high school. His interest in classical music was sparked as a child after listening to a Chopin CD.  Classical music became “part of who I am,” he said.

The COM Music Program offers students instruction in musical and vocal performance through first-rate instructors and performers. The program is designed for individuals interested in pursuing a music career or who wish to improve their musical skills for their personal satisfaction.
