COM offers new scholarships for child development students
College of the Mainland is offering a new scholarship in conjunction with the Texas Workforce Commission open to any student taking child development courses at COM.
The scholarship covers the cost of tuition for up to three child development courses.
The scholarship is open to new and current students, and to be eligible, students
need only complete the application and be studying child development at COM.
“We’re excited to offer the scholarship because it will enhance the quality of child
care in the community,” said Robert Castro, director of the COM Child Development
Lab School. “It’s a win-win. It’s a plus for child care facilities that need additional
training. It’s good for parents, for kids, for the college and for the community.”
COM offers in child development/education and several certificates in child development,
including the Child Care Administration Certificate and the Child Development Associate
Caregiver Certificate. These options are designed to allow students to prepare for
rewarding and challenging careers working with children and their families.
The COM Child Development Lab School is designed, equipped and staffed to be a model
of excellent group care and education of children from infants to pre-kindergarten.
Licensed for 42 children, the facility provides the opportunity for COM child development
students to graduate with the vision and skills needed to provide high-quality children's
services.
