Focus Four in Construction – After Five Decades of OSHA, Focus Four in Construction are Falls, Electrocutions, Struck-by, and Caught-by/in between. These four hazards result in 90% of deaths and 80% of citations in construction. Overall, these four comprise 40% of all workplace deaths and 45% of all citations issued by OSHA Compliance Officers consistently since OSHA's emphasis of them began in 2011. What actions have been taken to reduce the incidents involving these activities? Can we find other and better methods to reduce the occurrences more? This class will endeavor to develop improved prevention and protection methods to discover methods to help attendees further their safety efforts in these areas. Discussion, examples, and "brain-storming" will be used by the participants to achieve better practices for safety.  The instructor for this course is Jimm Cooper. Instructor bio here.

Workers’ Compensation – Initial Documentation through Return-to-Work, Center for Risk Management, - It is essential to properly report and document every on-the-job injury. From the initial filing of the Texas DWC-1, Employer's First Report of Injury or Illness to making a Bona Fide Offer of Employment there are many pitfalls to avoid. Understanding how to correctly report the incident details can make the difference in the acceptance or denial of the incident by your workers' compensation carrier. In the end, returning injured employees back to work as soon as medically possible following an injury is a major goal of the workers' compensation system and all case managers. Workers' compensation case managers should always seek to provide the best possible outcome for both the employee and employer. The instructor for this course is Norman Stuart. Instructor bio here.
