No-cost classes at Gulf Coast Safety Institute
Keeping pace with new Occupational Heath and Safety Administration regulatory changes, the Center for Risk Management will host two no-cost classes at the Gulf Coast Safety Institute: “ISO 45001: Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems” March 6 and “NFPA 70E –2015 Updates” March 17.
Designed for safety professionals and those who work in industry, the ISO 45001 class will examine a standard being developed by an international committee and how it might compare to current international and U.S. standards.
Michael Seymour will teach the class. Seymour worked as a consultant and contractor for OSHA beginning in 1979, became an agency employee in 1999 and retired in 2012. As the first director of OSHA’s Office of Technological Feasibility and acting deputy director of OSHA’s Directorate of Standards and Guidance, Seymour has over 30 years’ experience in controlling occupational safety and health hazards using engineering methods and personal protective equipment.
The NFPA 70E – 2015 Updates course reviews recent National Fire Protection Association standard changes and explains how they affect employers and employees. This class will also examine OSHA 1910.269 changes and discuss relationship between the OSHA and NFPA standards. Learners will better understand their responsibilities and how standards can be applied in their environment.
Kyle Kirkpatrick will teach this class. With over 30 years’ experience in safety program management in both the service and construction industries, Kirkpatrick is the director of environmental, health and safety at Shermco Industries. Having completed the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program Excellence in Safety Certificate Program from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, he successfully led the Shermco Industries initiative to be recommended for VPP Star Status by OSHA.
All classes are sponsored by Texas Mutual Insurance Company and presented at the Gulf Coast Safety Institute, located at 320 Delany Rd. in La Marque.
Classes will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Class check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m.
