No-cost classes on fall prevention, communication at GCSI
Falling from heights and miscommunication issues are among the common pitfalls in any industry, and the Center for Risk Management will host two no-cost classes at the Gulf Coast Safety Institute in February “Gender, Culture, and Communication” on Friday, Feb. 6, and “Create and Maintain an Effective Fall Protection Program” on Friday, Feb. 20.
“Gender, Culture, and Communication” takes a fresh look at closing the communication gaps across gender and culture. This class benefits any employee – especially those in safety who communicate with diverse people daily.
Peter Harrell Jr., president of Harrell Communications, teaches this class. A senior consultant for Verbal Defense and Influence, Harrell was certified 15 years ago as a master in Verbal Judo. He has excelled as an executive management trainer and was given the responsibility of creating, implementing and delivering leadership training for executive managers and supervisors in seven of the largest agencies in the state.
The “Create and Maintain an Effective Fall Protection Program” class teaches students how to minimize the risk of potentially harmful or fatal fall hazards and how to take a proactive approach to worker safety. This workshop provides an overview of effective fall protection programs, giving participants proven strategies for identifying, evaluating and controlling fall hazards.
Nolan Miller, a structural engineer and safety consultant with 17 years of experience, teaches this class. With a thorough knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and international safety standards, he specializes in fall protection consulting and design. He has specific experience providing fall protection solutions in the petrochemical industry for both upstream and downstream locations. With a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering Miller holds dual certification as a professional engineer and a certified safety professional.
Classes are sponsored by Texas Mutual Insurance Company and presented at the Gulf Coast Safety Institute, located at 320 Delany Rd. in La Marque.
Classes are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m.
