Free June safety classes at GSCI

What’s safety worth? The Center for Risk Management will host four no-cost classes at the Gulf Coast Safety Institute covering current trends in safety, health and industry to help companies save time and money.

New Trends in Safety, June 2, will teach tools and techniques to communicate effectively. Students will learn new fun and interactive ways to provide training and meetings.

Instructor Bridget Morales is the executive vice president and co-founder of Bloc Environmental Solutions. With more than 20 years in the petrochemical industry, she uses her compassion and enthusiasm to help build a strong culture of safe workers within her company.

OSHA’s Final Rule on Respirable Crystalline Silica for Construction, June 7, and OSHA’s Final Rule on Respirable Crystalline Silica for General Industry, June 8, will discuss OSHA's rule for respirable crystalline silica in construction and general industry. Topics include the health effects of silica exposure, content of the construction standard, exposure-monitoring methods, and methods of controlling exposure.

Instructor Michael Seymour has more than 30 years of experience in controlling occupational safety and health hazards. Seymour was the first director of OSHA’s Office of Technological Feasibility and Acting Deputy Director of OSHA’s Directorate of Standards and Guidance. Seymour led a large interdisciplinary team from throughout OSHA in drafting the respirable crystalline silica standard.

Root Cause Analysis, June 23, explains how to discover the underlying issue of a problem or injury. Participants will understand the different methods for determining root causes, such as the “five whys,” and what to do once the underlying cause is discovered.

Instructor Terry Kirkpatrick has more than 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He operates TK & Associates Safety Training and Consulting. He became operations manager for Conoco Pipeline Company with major responsibilities to OSHA and safety management.

All classes are sponsored by Texas Mutual Insurance Company and presented at the Gulf Coast Safety Institute, located at 320 Delany Rd. in La Marque.
